Yuhī

This travertine sculpture, its surface fractured into crystalline caverns and open voids, speaks to the unseen landscapes within us—sacred spaces shaped by the weight of time and the quiet alchemy of pressure. The ruptures, raw yet beautiful, reveal calcified memories, the remnants of growth and erosion. Pewter and brass inclusions ground it in the material world, while gold leaf gleams like Yūhi, that ephemeral light of evening when the horizon ignites the clouds in liquid amber and gold.

This glow, suspended between earth and sky, mirrors the soul’s liminal state, a threshold where brokenness becomes divine. It is a meditation on light emerging from darkness, of spirit rising through imperfection, and of the eternal within the transient.
