Biography

Joel is an artist who explores the interplay between landscape and abstraction through the creation of striking objects and their carefully considered settings.
Working with materials such as marble, semi-precious stones, wood, gold, pewter, and brass, he crafts a universe that symbolizes the intricate and layered contexts within us. His pieces blur the boundaries between natural and imagined worlds, inviting viewers to reflect on their internal landscapes.

Joel’s art offers a contemplative experience through both touch and sight, encouraging deeper engagement and introspection. By merging tangible materials with abstract forms, he creates objects that resonate on an emotional and sensory level, drawing connections between the physical and the ethereal.
After leaving Chelsea School of Art in 2000, Joel worked at pioneering Community Art Charity FreeForm Arts Trust. Here Joel devised and implemented Sculptural and environmental projects engaging with local communities in London’s east end, predominantly working with young offenders and vulnerable young people, putting them at the heart of projects to improve their environment.

After a period travelling the world and living in Australia, Joel settled in rural West Dorset where he began his wood sculpture studio. After meeting and marrying his wife and having their son in 2018, the family moved to Bristol for five years, until 2024 when they relocated to the small Somerset village of Lamyatt.
