Integument Of Ideas - Series

This series interrogates the concept of thought as a biological and philosophical event, framing it as a process that transcends mere cognition to become an embodied, cellular phenomenon. Integument, a term typically denoting a protective membrane or covering, here serves as a metaphor for the boundaries within which ideas form and materialise.

Ideas, like the spaces between cells or the pauses between breaths, are conceived not as tangible entities but as negative events or moments of potentiality that only acquire presence through their rupture into form. These sculptures suggest that ideas, in their ephemeral and nebulous state, mirror the imperceptible, transient connections that occur at the cellular level, where the intangible becomes the foundation of the solid.

These works pose the concept of an idea as a negative space, a pregnant pause; a shift from potentiality to form. Like the brief yet profound connection of a biological event, an idea is not a thing but a transformative, invisible moment, a liminal presence that becomes something solid only when it breaks through the boundaries of thought and materiality.
