Exoteric

This large vessel Exoteric, formed from rotten Ash, stands as a negotiation on duality, paired with its sister piece Esoteric. Together, they explore the outward and inward dimensions of existence; what is revealed and what is hidden. The Ash, waterlogged and febrile, carries the memory of dissolution, saturated histories, and the gentle collapse of integrity.

This transience mirrors the Artist, who inhabits the space between strength and dissolution. The vessel’s many characters emerge depending on perspective: from one angle, it resembles a classical urn, dignified and resolved; from another, it is grotesquely ravaged, marked by wounds of the wood’s decomposition.

Polished cherry end caps anchor the piece, deliberate termini to the haggard form, underscoring a tension between refinement and disarray. This duality becomes a reflection of the Artist’s own fractured wholeness; an interplay of beauty, weakness. The dualities of refinement and ruin, gentility and febrility, open a dialogue between perception and form—what remains of and what is beyond.
